We Were Liars Review: a new series full of teen drama, mystery, and emotions!
Now that I have seen all the episodes of “We Were Liars”, let’s analyze it in this article to try to understand if this series will offer you something new or if it is the same old story with a new wrapper.

Today we’re going to talk about a new drama series called “We Are Liars,” which will premiere on Prime Video on June 18, 2025. While I don’t usually like dramas that feature family mysteries, teen tragedies, romance, and stories of growing up, sometimes I like this kind of “mixed” content. When I saw the trailer for the series, it obviously had that savory touch to it, and somehow it generated a lot of anticipation.

Now that I have seen all the episodes of “We Were Liars”, let’s analyze it in this article to try to understand if this series will offer you something new or if it is the same old story with a new wrapper.
🔍 Format and content of We Were Liars
The first season of ‘We Were Liars’ consists of 8 episodes with an approximate running time of 50-55 minutes. The good thing is that it is available in English, and the dubbing quality is satisfactory. But if you like to watch the series as a family, beware! You will also find a lot of adult scenes, bold dialogues, and violence. So, it’s best to watch it alone.
🏝️ We Were Liars Story: A remote island and a summer full of mystery.
The story is set on a beautiful but remote island, where wealthy families have come to celebrate their summer vacations. The story focuses on the lives of four friends, especially the female protagonist of the series, whose life at first is perfect: love, friendship, family, parties, and summer fun.
But one day, out of the blue, her life takes an unexpected turn: a mystery, an accident, and the question of why and who did this to her.

From that point on, the story gets deeper. Every character has a secret, and every family has a secret to hide. The layers of these secrets are slowly revealed.
📺 What’s so special about this series?
- ✅ Excellent production quality: Aerial shots and locations are visually stunning. The depiction of the island made the screen a visual treat.
- ✅ Captivating characters: Each character has their own trauma, secret, and story that keeps viewers engaged.
- ✅ Interesting content: It has everything that today’s young audience loves: Action, romance, adult chemistry, and unexpected twists.
❌ What’s missing?
- Nothing new: if you’ve already seen teen dramas like “What I Did Last Summer,” “Young Royals,” “I Love Pretty Summer,” or “Max and the Terror,” you’ll find a lot of repetition in “We Were Liars.”
- Slow pace: the pace slows down in some episodes, which can get boring mid-season.
- Predictable twists: some suspense can already be foreseen, which reduces the intensity of the story a bit.
🎯 My verdict
‘We Were Liars’ is a decent teen drama series that offers romance, mystery, family secrets, and traumatic content. If you like the genre, you can certainly give it a chance, but keep your expectations low. The series isn’t bad, but it’s not groundbreaking either.
⭐ My rating: 3.5/5
